The Dems Can't Make Up Their Mind...

If you're a Democrat, it's certainly not your day.

After years of complaining about the war, Congress (controlled by the Democrats) passed a bill that would continue funding the war in Iraq, meaning Bush-bashers truly found out what it means to be lied to.

With their first opportunity to bring the troops home, the group that controls the purse strings chose to continue pretending money grows on trees. Even though I support the war, the fiscal policy of this administration is anything but conservative.

Personally, I think it's a very good bill. It requires that the Iraqi Government meet certain criteria throughout the course of the funding to continue receiving money, and in the homeland, it raises the minimum wage. When neither party is truly happy, the American people win.

While most Democrats will flip-flop and say that it's a good bill because it requires the Iraqi people meet improvement deadlines before receiving money, it goes against what party leaders have been asking for all-along, which is immediate troop withdrawal.

If this bill truly makes Democrats happy, Senator's Obama and Clinton would not have voted 'nay'. However, they voted along party objectives since their record will be scrutinized near the general election. While the majority of the party voted against their platform, I believe their vote was the correct one.

I wish, on so many levels, that the Democrats would get their shit together, but with a crazy Nancy Pelosi leading the House, and Dr. (Demento) Howard Dean leading the party, life doesn't look good.

Luckily for them, Rudy Giuliani has lots of Democrat-supported viewpoints. Maybe he'll be sufficient. After all, the black community claims Bill Clinton as one of their own; maybe the Democrats will do the same with Giuliani.

Other political points of interest:

  • I almost grasp John Edwards' viewpoint that the "war on terror" is a slogan. Maybe I can understand his reasoning for saying so -- or at least why he feels that way -- but I'm not sure I support it.

  • Ann Coulter is a dipshit. She's smug, arrogant, self-serving, and should take a drive through New England with Ted Kennedy.

  • Sean Hannity is also a dipshit. He, too, is smug, arrogant, and self-serving. I'd prefer if he were in the trunk while Ted Kennedy was driving.

  • Jimmy Carter needs to enjoy retirement and stay out of the public eye. Every time he shows his face, someone has to clean up his mess.

  • Highlights of a speech given by President Bush showed him saying, "That's why I quoted quotes by Osama Bin Laden." I don't believe anyone noticed him saying "quoted quotes." Isn't it simply "quoted Osama Bin Laden?"

  • And are we spelling it Osama or Usama? We don't want to be politically incorrect!

Labels:

The bill- Although we Dems have control of the HoR and the Senate, the sad fact is that with Our Fearless Leader in office, we face opposition in the form of a veto. We don't have such a commanding hold over the HoR and Senate that we could get the 2/3 vote needed to override. So no, it's not that Dems can't make up their minds, it is that their hands are tied. That is why politics are often a compromise, and why the balance of power works (though sadly, in this case, not in favor of my opinion that we should leave soon).

Ann Coulter--YES. SHE. IS. She's a dumb piece of shit, and anyone who likes her...probably is, too. If that's hateful, oh well. She's said worse.

Osama vs. Usama--don't know, really, perhaps can be translated differently, but I have always found it odd that we translate proper nouns (for example, shouldn't Italy be known as "Italia" to everyone?) I say it's his name, so it would make sense to refer to him (and all foreign countries, cities, etc.) by whatever he calls himself. But I guess we'll never know.
