Don't Blame Gillespie; You'd Do The Same Thing...

When the word got out this morning that Billy Gillespie would be leaving College Station to coach the Kentucky Wildcats, comments began appearing on message boards and newspaper articles calling him a liar.

We hear it every offseason in college football, and it's becoming more frequent with college basketball.  While it rarely occurs in professional sports, Bill Belichick and Nick Saban are proof that it does.

Several weeks ago, my boss noticed the excitement of my position was beginning to disappear and asked if I was happy.  I told him I was fine and there was no need to worry.  One week later, I gave him my resignation and informed him I was taking a position with the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets.

I couldn't tell him I was unhappy!  Then what?  He knows I'm shopping for a new position?  That's not good for office morale.

Billy Gillespie turned down the Arkansas position because the package was better at Texas A&M.  He said it was where he wanted to be, and I doubt that was a lie...

Until Kentucky came calling.

Don't blame the man.  Ambitious people always want something better, but most people are scared to leave job security, benefits, and a decent salary for a position that may offer a bit less, but higher payoff in the end.

The problem, however, is that college recruits are who suffer.  They often choose a school based on the coach and the direction of the program, but can't make a change due to NCAA restrictions.

But life isn't fair.

Get over it.  Coaches are human and always want something better, rather it's another championship, more money, better facilities, or more recognition.  You want the same from your career.

Or maybe it's just me... but I have ambition.
