Football Never Ends...

Denver Broncos

Denver's trade of running back Tatum Bell to Detroit, along with offensive tackle George Foster and a fifth round pick for cornerback Dre' Bly, continues to prove Mike Shanahan's genious with the tailback position.

The Broncos needed to replace Darrent Williams, who was killed in the offseason, and the combination of Bly and Champ Bailey give Denver one of the best CB combos in the NFL.

Does this mean that Mike Bell is the man in Denver?  Or will they draft another no-name and make him a star?

Jake Plummer

So Jake Plummer is spreading the word that he's considering retirement as opposed to being traded to Tampa, claiming that he doesn't want to continue his career in another city.

Would he rather stay in Denver and be a backup?

Rumors were swirling that he'd find himself in Houston as David Carr's replacement, reuniting him with Gary Kubiak, with whom he had the most success.

In Denver, Jay Cutler was on a local radio station recently, and made comments that he wouldn't be surprised if Plummer were to walk away.

Why would a team want a quarterback who could easily walk away from the game?  Being the most important position on the field, shouldn't he be spending time in the film room with a first to arrive/last to leave mentality?

I understand a few teams are desperate for a quarterback, but Jake seems like the wrong choice.  His self-defecating attitude cannot be good for your locker room.

Houston Texans

So with Plummer likely not coming to Houston, what do they do next?

Sage Rosenfels?  While I know very little about him, I don't care for his lack-of-durability, especially with the Texans offensive line, although Kubiak appears to have faith in his backup quarterback.

Brady Quinn in the first round?  I believe Quinn has very good pro-potential, especially from playing under Charlie Weis, but the Texans have so many holes that spending a first round pick on another position might be more feasible, if another quarterback option exists.

And I believe that option may just be Kevin Kolb from the University of Houston.  He has lots of upside, has a strong arm, and is mobile.

Can David Carr return?  Probably not, but in the NFL, everything is possible.

NFL Cuts

Several cuts across the NFL may surprise a few people, but most shouldn't.

Drew Bledsoe getting cut was expected.  Is anyone really shocked?  I am curious, however, what they plan to do with the backup role.

Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter will be searching for a new team next season, and reports out of Steel City believe he's lost a few steps.

Joe Horn refused to take a pay cut -- that's the easy way to guarantee the ax.

The Texans cut Seth Payne and Eric Moulds, and both were slightly unexpected.  Payne has been with the team since they began, but had a problem with injuries, and Moulds is getting old and slow.  The Texans are looking to add speed at the wide receiver position.
