A Lesson For Us All...

I think this is how I feel.

I think.

If I'm interpreting this correctly, the makers of the video are taking a shot at the Christian fanatics -- or maybe just Baptists.

Labels: ,

I dont think they are necessarily taking a shot at them as opposed to just saying "there is more than one way to believe in God and be a Christian." People often feel the need to bash other peoples ideas or ways of going about things even though they have a common belief. i like football but just because i dont watch every single game and order the sunday ticket package doesnt make me any less of a fan. im a christian but i couldnt tell you the last time i went to church. does that make you more of a christian than me? not really.

Snap. Good video. Good point made. I think that it's only a shot at those holier-than-thou "Good, True Christians" who tell you to "forward this [incredibly trite and annoying] email if you're not ashamed of Jesus!!!" You know the ones.

Too bad, though, that you can't laugh at this video or appreciate this message without being seen as a bad or "lukewarm" Christian. Luckily, I don't really care.

Ever hear the saying (t-shirt or bumper sticker, probably): "I love Jesus--it's his fan club I have a problem with"?

Hey, my precious, sweet Derrick, I tell you, I have enjoyed reading your thoughts. I wanted to share a few of my own. I consider myself "one of those Christians". But by that I mean, one that has come around to realizing that you never know how much time you have here, so get with it. I hope I don't come across as judgmental. I don't judge you for not going to church. I do hate that you have come to some "conclusion" about baptists or any other religion. I believe people can worship the way they choose. I go to a baptist church but when asked I say I am a Christian. I love the Lord. Because of Him, I will see my son again in Heaven. For people that say they are Christians but don't go to church, I pray that they are getting fed in some way. And I will tell you why. In this life, you are either giving or taking away. If you don't practice at living the Christian life (i.e., going to church, volunteering yourself to good causes to help others less fortunate in this world, spreading the "good news" about the Lord and letting non-Christians know before He does come back - which is what I feel one of our duties as Christians is - raising your children up with the faith that they need to make it in this world) then you are using your energy somewhere. It's either giving or taking away. Now, that is not to say you have to go to church. Don't misunderstand me. I personally love going to my church (no, I do not agree with everything said or done there or even with some of the people there). But it doesn't matter to me. I go there to worship my Lord, to keep my focus on why I am here on this earth, and to strive to be the person that God wants me to be here. That is what I personally get out of church. There are so many negative things in this world that can take your focus away from the real purposes in life. Church, for me, is a wonderful sense of family and committment and belonging that I need and love. It is a good thing for me and my family. I have watched all of us grow and become better people in society because of our faith and our commitment to Him. But I just want you to remember, people change. We all are human. We all make mistakes. Your views or mine might not be the same later. I have seen first hand (in-laws) what happens to a person when the family doesn't bring their children to church and has a negative view on the church in general. One day you will have children. You will have a responsibility to those children. It is the most important responsibility that you will ever have. You can choose to focus on the negative aspects of church and not take your child or you can focus on the positive and good things that come out of it and raise them up "in the way they should go, and when they are grown, they will not depart from it...(I know, I"m quoting scripture). But my point is: The older you get(yeah, I'm 40) the less life becomes all about me and my views on this crazy world and the more spiritual I become and realize it's not all about me. It's for the greater good. I just pray that you will keep an open mind and know that your views will change over the years more than once. With age comes wisdom, sacrifice, committment, and choice. I pray you choose wisely on this side of Heaven and don't get so bogged down on "this is my opinon and I'm sticking to it." Church is a good thing for many people. It's really like anything else. It's what you make of it. If you choose for it to be a place of pointing out your faults, etc., that's what it will become. If you choose for it to be a place of worship and commitment and reverence to our Lord and Savior (no matter what "religion" it is), that's what it will be. I'm sure you will not agree with me on some of this, and that's okay. Like I said, with age comes wisdom. It's not about being right or wrong. It's just about making the effort and trying to make a difference. I love you and hope you enjoy my thoughts.
