Super Bowl XLI -- BUST!!

Super Bowl XLI will be remembered for Peyton Manning crossing into the top echelon of quarterbacks, Rex Grossman living up to low expectations, and Tony Dungy becoming the first Black-American head coach to win a Super Bowl.

As we look back in years to come, the historic value will make this game memorable.

Otherwise, I could forget this game was ever played.

Super Bowl XLI offered definitive proof why the World Series and BCS National Championship are the greatest sporting events played today. While March Madness offers a couple rounds of great basketball, it doesn't compare.

How can a three-hour game live up to the hype of two weeks of analysis and coverage break-down?

The problem is that it can't. Today was proof, and even the crowd knew it.

Now, the only purpose of Super Bowl Sunday is to elevate players to greatness behind a legacy built by football greats like Vince Lombardi and Joe Montana, or football's most overrated like Joe Namath and Lynn Swann.

Peyton obviously fits into the league's greatest, as well as Dungy, but it would have been great to see them bust onto the next level with a little more excitement, instead of playing in a game that offered very little entertainment value.

Super Bowl XLI was a complete bust, and it's happening all too often. Even the commercials left much to be desired. That's usually the best part.
