Gettin' Back To My Roots...

It's been a while since I've written - too long for me to be away from the keyboard. For the thousands of readers around the world, forgive me.

Currently, I'm reading a book called If You're Not Out Selling, You're Being Outsold. Because I'm still new to sales, any self-education I can find is helpful. I've yet to be as successful in sales as I'd like, but I'm confident it will come.

While reading, it made me realize why I originally began writing this blog in the first place.

There was a time when I was constantly learning. Whether it was in class, reading, or simply researching new information on the internet, this blog gave me a forum to keep it in order. Originally, I hoped that one day I could search through old postings to find something that would make my brain function more efficiently.

In the meantime, it's turned into a place for me to bash Eli Manning, and talk about my growing man-crush on Tony Romo.

I'll still bash Eli, and as long as the Cowboys keep winning, I'll keep flashing "pretty eyes" to Mr. Romo. I would, however, like to bring a little depth back to the virtual pages of AintScared.net.

My mind works differently than most people. I don't 'think' the way you do, and I don't want to fall victim to the shallow opinions of newscasters, sports writers, or the prevalent viewpoint on a push-button topic.

It's unusual to see me calling for Michael Vick to be sentenced to life in prison. I have a tendency to defend those that are hated.

Sometime ago - when I wore a younger man's clothes - I was taught to think for myself, research, and learn before forming an opinion.

You'll read a lot of differing viewpoints, but I hope to make you think.

Let's hope I'm smart enough to do so.

Adding A Domain...

Bear with me, buckaroos.

If you visited my previous site, you'll remember that the address was www.aintscared.net. While I'm no longer using that particular company to host my web space, I plan to keep the domain name (web address).

The key, however, is getting the company to point aintscared.net to my Blogger account.

This has not been easy, but cut me some slack. For the next day or two, the site may be up... it may be down... or it may point to the original site.

Please be patient, and thank you for reading. It's not worth it without you.

Barroom Woes...

love the apartment Rebecca and I chose. I love the location, the restaurant and bar options nearby, the price, and the neighborhood.

The place certainly has it's drawbacks.

Our place is small -- quite small. Not cramped, necessarily, but it doesn't allow us to have unnecessary furniture.

As a matter of fact, it doesn't really allow us to have some necessary furniture, either.

We don't have room for a kitchen table, nor do we have space for a desk. We could probably make room, but our furniture is too big to squeeze everything in.

The only time I find myself needing such items are when I need workspace. Sitting on a sofa isn't the most efficient place to crunch numbers, so I typically end up on an hour long crusade trying to find a restaurant or bar that:

A. Has free WiFi access
B. Has good food and Sam Adams
C. I've yet to try.

Tonight, being Friday night, it's difficult to find a place at any bar. I don't feel like a Starbucks, or Panera Bread, so as I speak, I'm sitting in the middle of Charlie Brown's Piano Bar inside the Colburn Hotel.

I've been here before, so I've already broken one of my rules, but this place is great. It's old, kinda dingy, dark, and has a piano player in the corner plunking along on the keys. Unfortunately, there's no WiFi access. I thought I could mooch off the hotel.

Not so much.

So I'll probably finish my beer and get to the next place.

Too bad I don't know the city better, because every restaurant or bar I drive by is packed.

Damn. This place would be perfect if they just had WiFi!

So as the piano man bangs out "The Girl From Impanema," and a 60+ year old man -- who was just making out with Johnnie Walker -- tries to sing the song in Portugues, I'm left thinking there's probably some magic way I could get access to T Mobile's EDGE Network through my phone's Bluetooth, but I'm no that tech savy.

If he takes requests, maybe I'll ask for "Fly Me To The M

Life's New Necessities...

I love my HDTV.

We own a 32' Samsung LCD TV (the official television of the NFL), and I don't understand how I ever lived without it.

Games are so clear, and Izzie Stevens is absolutely stunning in high def.

Although, I was left wondering.

My heterosexual lifemate Nate isn't a sports fan. Why have an HDTV if you can't watch football on Sunday, or baseball during the week?

When he gets to Denver and I invite him over, what are we going to watch? While I have an inappropriate crush on Betty White, Golden Girls reruns aren't as exciting as seeing Lance Berkman drive in the winning run.

I suppose my mission is to make him a sports fan. I've been trying, and I've seen progress, but we might have more work to do.

Am I Really Speechless...?

So I have had this overwhelming desire to blog recently, problem is, I have a major case of writers block.

I used to follow current events much more than I do today, but I find myself getting irritated at the bickering. It's always been there, but for some reason, it didn't bother me until recently. Politics used to give me much to write about, but that hasn't been the case lately.

Even the recent move to Denver has been a bit uneventful. As I click the weather report, it's currently -1 degree, and believe me, it doesn't get much warmer during the day. The high tomorrow is 9. That's a single digit -- 9.

I'm not going to insult your intelligence and tell you it isn't cold, because by God it is cold, but it's not the same type of cold I experienced in Texas. Somehow or another, 30 degrees with humidity feels colder than this. I don't actually mind being outside in this weather... the difference is that the icy road conditions make it difficult to go anywhere. Most people stay home.

So now that the apartment is put together, the job hunt would be the next logical step. I have a meeting with the Proprietor at the Carrabba's located in Aurora Sunday afternoon, and hopefully I'll be with them until I can either get a decision from Smith Barney or find something else. Believe me, nothing will motivate me to find a job more than working in the evening and going back to waiting tables. Bartending is great, but carrying food has run it's course.

In a city where the unemployment rate is 4%, I shouldn't have a difficult time find a good career. Let's see how picky I'll be.

Pretending To Be Important...

Anytime my schedule changes, it takes a few weeks to adapt. I'm not talking about simply working an extra day, or having dinner at 6:00 instead of 7:00 (although it'd be nice to have a job where dinner wasn't at 11:15), I mean drastic schedule changes, like starting a new semester in school.

I've gone from taking shorter classes every day, to having class two days a week, but being at school from 11:00 until 6:00 instead. I have no complaints, but it takes a little time to adapt.

Therefore, my time to blog has diminished considerably. While it's easy to throw a few lines on the web that mean absolutely nothing to anyone, I try to keep people intrigued; that takes a bit more time. Of course that doesn't mean reading my material is intriguing to you, but I try.

Ultimately, writing is quite theraputic; it's a nice way to relax.

At times, I think it's an addiction, but I certainly hope not. Shouldn't I have a real addiction, like alcoholism, gambling, or crack? Or it'd be nice to be a sex-addict or an adrenaline junky.

Why do I get the blogging addiction? I suppose a Baptist minister would tell me that it's all a part of God's plan. That's another reason I'm not Baptist.

Okay, maybe it's not an addiction, but it definitely brings gratification.

And to top it off, I've been waiting quite some time to have a website of my own. I hired a web developer to create a site to use as a portfolio. Since Rebecca and I are moving to Denver, I thought it would be a simple way to make myself available to potential employers while searching for a career, but I'll include a blog on the site, along with my resume.

While it's nearing completion, it's taken a bit longer than I thought.

It's okay -- I have patience.

Then comes my next dilemma: if I plan to have a blog outside MySpace, how will I develop an audience? When I skim through blogs, they seem to have an overall theme that mine does not. Some focus on sports, news, Bush-bashing, politics, sex, and technology, while mine is simply random thoughts from my ego.

I've come to the conclusion that, in order to gain national exposure, I have to show crotch shots of hot celebrities, pictures of Paris Hilton drunk in see-thru clothing, or show nipple-slips of Lindsay Lohan.

Hopefully, my blog will have a bit more integrity than that. Believe me, I have no problem with naked women, but I hope to keep the non-sense that is Miss Lohan and Paris the Heiress away from my musings.

I'll stick with my devotion to Mandy Moore and my unhealthy infactuation with Bea Arthur, though I'll try not to bring you along.

It sure would be nice to change the world with this blog, but I doubt that's likely. Therefore, I'll try to entertain. Maybe some unwitty humor, terse opinions, and the occasional distasteful comments will be enough. I suppose I could put this Marketing degree to use and actually market my site to people.

So let's see if there's a market for my product.

Blog Junkie...

Okay, so I'm a blog junkie.

I enjoy writing, it gives me an outlet, and believe it or not, I've actually got a few people who pay attention.

Today, I came across a MySpace group that's having a blog contest, and I believe I'll enter.  I'm supposed to submit one blog which will be thrown into a pool, and eventually trimmed down to 32.  Then, it's tournament time!

Maybe I'll get my ass kicked in the first round, or maybe I won't make it that far, at all.  Either way, it's fun.  Plus, I'm always looking for exposure.

Now I've got to search through my blogs and find a suitable entrant.

Any suggestions?  If you'd like to throw ideas my way, you can click the 'category' link on any blog and it'll bring you to any writings under that heading.  Unfortunately, MySpace doesn't let us search through older blogs very easily.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a contest to prepare for.

A Whole New World...

I've always thought of myself as someone who kept up with society. New gadgets and gizmos, nice clothes, following current events... so it was only a matter of time before I woke up and joined the world of blogging! The web is my home. I find it a way to escape, relax, keep up with what's going on in the world, and stay in touch. Believe it or not, I try not to watch so much tv, because I've always believed that I'd end up a zombie on the wrong end of the middle-class. Honestly, I'm not quite sure how much the web is keeping me from that same fate.

So here goes. My outlook on the world. Any time I enter a new part of my life, I always remember something a wise man once told me on how to keep people listening. About what I wanted to say, he told me, "you've got to keep it like a woman's skirt... long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep me interested." Other than the fact it's quite sexists, he does make a good point. Let's hope I can live up to those standards.
